The basics
What is Ace?
Ace is an iPhone study app that turns your own course material — PDFs, PowerPoint slides, Word documents, ePub textbooks and YouTube lectures — into four-option practice questions checked against the source. You can study them on your own or play them as a two-player quiz duel with a friend.
Who is Ace for?
Anyone with a reading list and an exam: university and college students, medical and nursing students, high-school students revising for AP, A-level, GCSE or IB exams, and professionals studying for certifications.
Which devices does Ace run on?
Ace is available for iPhone. An Android version is planned for later.
Do I need an account?
Yes, so your study sets and friends are saved. You can sign up with Apple, Google or email.
Is Ace a flashcard app or a quiz app?
Both. Each card is a multiple-choice question with four options, so it works like a flashcard you study on your own and like a quiz question in a duel.
Uploading material
What file types can I upload?
PDF, PowerPoint (.pptx), Word (.docx), ePub, plain text and Markdown files up to 100 MB each, plus YouTube video links.
Can I upload scanned notes or photos of pages?
Not yet. Ace needs files with selectable text. If you can't select and copy a sentence in the file, run it through a text-recognition (OCR) tool first.
Can I study just one chapter of a textbook?
Yes. After uploading, Ace reads the file's chapters and headings and asks which part you want. Choosing a narrow scope gives sharper questions.
Can I combine several files into one study set?
Yes. A study set can hold more than one source, such as the lecture slides plus the textbook chapter, or a video plus your notes.
Does Ace work with YouTube videos?
Yes, if the video has captions (auto-generated captions are fine). Ace reads the transcript and writes questions from it. English works best today.
Is there a limit on uploads?
Ace Premium has no upload cap. During the free trial you can upload up to three files. Each file can be up to 100 MB.
Question quality
How does Ace make sure questions are correct?
Every question is written from a specific passage of your material and traced back to it. Ace also tests each question with and without the source: if it can be answered just as easily without studying, or the answer isn't supported, it is discarded before you see it.
Why are the wrong answers so convincing?
On purpose. Ace builds wrong options from misconceptions students genuinely hold about each concept, and from true facts about closely related concepts. That way, getting a question right means you know it rather than guessed it, and getting one wrong shows you exactly what you mixed up.
What if a question is wrong?
No AI system is perfect. Each question stays linked to the part of your material it came from so you can check the source. If something looks off, let us know at support@acenow.app.
Does Ace use ChatGPT?
No. Ace's question engine runs on Google's Gemini models through Google Cloud, combined with Ace's own pipeline for extracting concepts, writing distractors and checking questions.
Studying with friends
How do friend duels work?
Pick a study set and tap Invite. When your friend joins, you take alternating turns answering questions from that set. Each turn lasts up to 15 seconds, correct answers score points with a bonus for speed, and both phones show the correct answer for three seconds after each turn. Ace shows the winner at the end, or a draw if the scores are level.
How do I add a friend?
Share your personal invite code (it looks like ACE-XXXX-XXXX). Your friend enters it in Ace and you're connected. Codes expire and have a use limit for safety.
How many players can join a duel?
Two. For a bigger group, run several duels on the same study set.
Can my friend cheat by pausing the app?
No. Ace's servers grade every answer and keep the clock, so backgrounding the app doesn't add time and both players are scored the same way.
Can Ace add study sessions to my calendar?
Yes. Schedule 30, 45 or 60-minute sessions in Ace’s calendar, solo or with a friend. If you connect Google Calendar, each session is copied there too, and removing it in Ace removes the copy.
Pricing & billing
How much does Ace cost?
Your first study set is free. Ace Premium is €12.99 per week with a 3-day free trial, €39 per month, or €350 per year on the website. All plans include the same features. In the iPhone app (coming soon), App Store prices apply in your local currency.
How do I cancel?
On your iPhone go to Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, select Ace and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the paid period.
Will I be reminded before my trial ends?
Yes. Ace reminds you before the 3-day trial ends so you can decide whether to continue.
How do I get a refund?
Payments are processed by Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Privacy & account
Who can see my uploads?
Your uploads are private to your account. When you play a duel, your friend sees the questions from the study set you chose, not your original files.
Is my material used to train AI models?
Your material is sent to Google Cloud's Gemini API only to generate your questions. Under Google Cloud's terms for this service, customer data isn't used to train Google's models. See our privacy policy.
How do I delete my account?
From inside the app: open your profile and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your account, your uploaded files, your study sets, your progress and your friend connections.
